Apple has introduced a new pill-shaped notch, removing the notch on the top that has been common on iPhone 14 Pro models for the past few generations. The Cupertino-based company is calling it Dynamic Island and is said to launch all four iPhone 15 models this year, but the brand may have other plans for next year’s iPhone 16 Pro.

According to a report by The Elec, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro will feature Face ID technology under the screen to provide a more useful viewing area. The TrueDepth camera used for facial recognition is not visible when this feature is not used. Only the lens hole for the front camera will be visible, which will give the camera a more seamless look.

The publication says that the front-facing camera hole will remain on the iPhone 16 Pro, but screen space and the overall immersive effect will be improved. It also confirms that the iPhone 15 Pro’s screen cutouts this year will be the same as those on the iPhone 14 Pro, as under-display Face ID isn’t ready yet.

Also, the report adds that Apple will introduce an under-panel camera (UPC) under the panel on the front of the iPhone, in line with the Face ID app. The UPC still has the front-facing camera module mounted below the screen, but the camera lens hole is not visible when not in use. Under Panel Face ID and UPC, the application principle will be the same. The new technology will likely be limited to Pro models and will expand to other next-gen devices.
