On the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, Apple will abandon the Dynamic Island cutout in favor of a new system that will hide the front camera and TrueDepth scanners below the screen. This was reported by South Korean publication The Elec. The name of the new system will be Underpanel Face ID.
According to the news of The Elec, the American company will continue to use Dynamic Island in the iPhone 15 series. At the same time, if on the iPhone 14 only two models (Pro and Pro Max) can boast a new cutout on the screen, then in the iPhone 15 series all four devices will receive the Dynamic Island option.
In contrast, only Pro and Pro Max models will receive Underpanel Face ID in 2024. The base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will remain on Dynamic Island.
Underpanel Face ID will allegedly partially hide the TrueDepth sensors and front camera lens. In the latter case, the pixels of the matrix will be transparent when the screen is unlocked.
