According to Wojciechowski, the audience has a codename drink (The name of a character from The Mandalorian TV series) and GR10 and Groguaudio are alternate names and are currently in development by the Google Nest team.

That doesn’t mean it will launch as a Nest-branded product, but Wojciechowski suggests the tracker could come in multiple colors and include a built-in speaker to help users locate a lost device using audio, similar to the Apple AirTag.

Expected functionality of the viewer

Wojciechowski claims that Grogu trackers can support Bluetooth LE and ultra-wideband (UWB). Google’s flagship mobile devices Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro support UWB connectivity, but its use has so far been limited to features like Nearby Share.

UWB offers much greater accuracy than Bluetooth for finding lost items and provides a tag with both distance estimates and the ability to show direction. “While Google’s audience probably has UWB in it, it’s not a requirement for the ‘Search Network’ they’re working on – BLE is sufficient,” Wojciechowski said.

According to Wojciechowski, Google may announce the product during the Google I/O developer conference in May 2023, and audiences may debut it with the new Pixel devices during a Google event in the fall.
