In the US, operator Metro by T-Mobile has added a low-cost smartphone, the TCL Ion X, to its range for $120. A feature of the model is a replaceable battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh.

The device is equipped with a 6-inch display with HD+ resolution, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of flash memory, a 5-megapixel front camera and a 13MP resolution main camera. The hardware platform is based on SoC MediaTek Helio G25, and the software platform is Android 12. Other features of the phone include USB-C port, microSD memory card slot and standard headphone jack.

In the EU, after standardization of the charging port (USB-C), they want phone manufacturers to oblige users to provide free access to the phone’s battery for easy replacement. But that’s clearly unlikely in the near future (and if such a law is passed) and for now, phones with replaceable batteries like the TCL Ion X are rare.
