A month and a half ago, Lenovo and Motorola introduced what is known as the Motorola ThinkPhone. But so far it has not been We were able to establish the first contact with the terminal.. And it was very strange. Like device.
And this, It’s no coincidence that Motorola showed us this in a case. We were able to tinker with the ThinkPhone a few meters from the vault at the Instituto Cervantes, where manuscripts of famous authors like the author of Don Quixote are kept. Enough to draw some conclusions already.

While Motorola is the brand that wanted to be made more visible in ThinkPhone, this pairing with Lenovo is felt in every corner of the terminal. Although not groundbreaking, we set out with a design that reminds us of the era. The aesthetic lines of Lenovo ThinkPad. Even the resistance.
Motorola wanted to give us a demo where it acknowledged that a server was suffering. First they showed us screen scratch resistance trying to draw it with some keys is a situation that can happen every day when we carry the smartphone in our pocket. Result: no scratches. Gorilla Glass is responsible for this.
No matter when the ultimate endurance test came mobile phone was thrown onto a marble floor and was not damaged. There is no such thing as an unbreakable device, as we always want to emphasize in such tests. However, it exhibits high shock resistance, which is not always attainable, although it is often sought to be at the highest level.
ThinkPhone ‘eco’ packaging
If we talk about the feeling that the terminal in hand gives us, we should say this. it feels incredibly comfortable. We cannot describe it as a compact mobile phone, just because its screen already offers a diagonal of 6.6 inches. However, its light weight and not overly wide greatly facilitate the grip. It never gives a slippery feeling.
The included display may not be the best on the market, but we’re not missing anything either.. It’s not even a resolution higher than the FullHD+ it contains. Color balance is good, 144 Hz makes it look very fluid, and with its 1,200 nits peak we can be sure it will suit complex situations at its brightness level. Although more intuition than anything else, this is a litmus test for any panel, as we cannot test it outdoors.
Another design element we cannot ignore is classic red Lenovo button transferred to this smartphone on the side. It supports multiple configurations for opening apps or performing actions, with a slightly rough feel that sets it apart from other buttons.
We knew about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 at the end of the year, and we’ve already seen it in high-end terminals like the OnePlus 11 or the Samsung Galaxy S23. But, ThinkPhone brings the penultimate version of QualcommSnapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
And while it may be a shame to look at the price of the terminal, it’s not about taking up arms. HE Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is still a great processor. This has been demonstrated on numerous terminals, such as the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, and it looks as little as we could test it on this ThinkPhone as well.
You can use it for extremely demanding graphics games etc. We would love to test it. It wasn’t possible, but we detect it in the basic repairs we do. move everything with solvency and of course without warming up or showing any other sign of weakness.
It should be said that this terminal comes with only one option. 8 RAMsWhile the 12GB version is missing from arriving in Spain, it should also help it perform well on more demanding actions. We find 256 GB in storage and leave 128 and 512 GB options for other regions. Seeing your professional approach maybe it would be nice to switch to 1TB.
It would be unfair to rate the ThinkPhone’s camera in a test as short as we did and in only one case. In a closed room like the vault of the Bank of Spain once, this seems like a very simple scenario.
However, in the few tests we were able to looks like a good camera. Its specifications show that the ambition of this smartphone is not shown here, but the fact that it provides a dual camera and a depth sensor is an interesting plus.
Where this camera particularly stands out used as a Windows PC’s webcam. Thanks to Motorola’s ‘Ready For’ application, we can take advantage of these 50 megapixels to make higher quality video conferences. And as with the additions a function has been added via software that allows the camera to follow us and even open at an angle if someone else appears on the scene.
After seeing all the “classic” parts of a smartphone today, it’s time to talk about what really makes this ThinkPhone different. leave for now A very clean version of Androidespecially Android 13. And the additions it adds are not promotional apps or anything but utilities that practically allow it to be an excellent professional gadget.
First, we start by noting that There will be a 4 year update, the first three with full system updates and the last with security patches. And in that sense, Motorola isn’t just adding Google’s own security certificates, it’s adding a few more.
The standard includes: chipset called Moto KeySafe, with which it encrypts the system. Added to this are other software elements such as the Moto Secure app with secure folders, managing permissions, changing the order of PIN numbers or preventing connections from being disabled when the mobile is locked.
ThinkPhone security application ‘Moto Secure’, which will reach other terminals
All this is covered by the following solutions: ThinkShield for mobileis now a work security system transferred to the smartphone ecosystem with this terminal. While advanced security features are available for free, Motorola also confirms the possibility of obtaining a business license to add more soldiers to this space, even if it is personalized for each company.
About you Synergy with Windows computersWe were able to attend a demo of their utilities, whether from Lenovo or not, in first person. From using the mobile phone in desktop format from the computer screen to having a universal clipboard where you can copy a text or image to the mobile phone and paste it on the PC (or vice versa). All this through the ‘Ready’ app.
With additional security options, on both a design and functional level, ThinkPhone’s Clearly aimed at the professional public. In fact, its €1,000 price (rounding up) doesn’t exactly make it affordable for ‘everyone’.
However, they are not closed to finding an interesting target in individuals from Motorola. Especially for those who care more about their own safety and the security of their data. Now… One thousand euros and a host of additional features for the professional space that might not fit well into the profile of a standard user.
And your processor is not the newest, but Offers more incentives than security or functionality with Lenovo computers. See its quirky 144Hz display, good software support, or generous battery that doesn’t give up fast charging (and a charger included).
Motorola says so The idea is that it has an 18-month lifecycle on the market.. After that, we’ll have to see what decision you make and whether a second-generation ThinkPhone appears at that time (or in the meantime). For now, they are laying the groundwork for an as-yet-uncovered series by adding this new product category, featuring the top-of-the-line ‘Razr’ and ‘Edge’ series, and now aimed at the professional public.
