Nokia G22 has a feature not found in most smartphones

Nowadays, when smartphones have better screens, bigger batteries, and other higher hardware specifications, there’s one problem that almost all of them have: they can’t be easily repaired by their owners. HMD Global, the manufacturer of Nokia-branded Android smartphones, is trying to break this rule with one of its recently announced budget phones.

Announced on the eve of Mobile World Congress 2023, HMD Global introduced the Nokia G22. It is designed to allow owners to replace certain parts, including the 6.52-inch display, 5,050 mAh battery and charging port.

HMD Global has partnered with phone repair company iFixit for this new venture for the Nokia G22. Phone owners can purchase repair kits and spare parts from iFixit. Using these kits, parts and included manuals will give G22 vehicle owners the ability to quickly remove and replace selected parts.

HMD Global says it will be considered an authorized repair if owners repair these parts using the tools and manuals provided by iFixit. This means that it will not affect the warranty of the Nokia G22. For now, repair kits will only be available to Nokia G22 owners in Australia, the UK, and the European Union.

Other hardware features of the Nokia G22 include a Unisoc T606 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage with a microSD card that will allow you to add up to 2TB of additional storage. It will also have a 50MP primary camera, a 2MP depth camera and a 2MP macro camera, as well as an 8MP front camera. Unfortunately, the phone will come with the older Android 12 operating system out of the box, but HMD Global promises it will receive two years of OS updates and three years of security updates.

Android Authority reports that the Nokia G22 will launch on March 8 in the UK for around £149.99 or $179. US release plans for the phone have yet to be announced. We hope this will be the first in Nokia’s phone lineup to be easy to repair by the owner, and if successful, we could see other smartphone companies join the trend.
