When we talk about a folding phone, we usually think of Samsung’s offers such as Galaxy Z Fold4 or Galaxy Z Flip4. Huawei Mate Xs 2 may also come to mind. On the other hand, if they talk about an offer manufacturer Technoboth the brand and the device are unfamiliar to us.
Just because we haven’t heard of Tecno doesn’t mean the manufacturer doesn’t have something interesting to offer us, at least on paper. In fact, its first foldable phone, the Phantom V Fold, has a host of features that are guaranteed not to be missed. Exactly this was presented during CES 2023, an event we covered at Xataka.
A clamshell phone with a book-style design
The Phantom V Fold bills itself as a foldable book smartphone that can quickly transform into a tablet of sorts thanks to its hinged opening mechanism. Screen external 6.42 inch and a resolution of 1080 x 2550 pixels. The internal one, according to GMS Arena, is 7.85 inches and has a resolution of 2296 x 2000 pixels.
In both cases, the panels chosen by the manufacturer feature OLED technology, offer a 120 Hz refresh rate and promise a maximum brightness of only 1,100 nits. At the processor level, we find the Mediatek Dimensity 9000+, one of the performance-focused offerings designed to face the best of Qualcomm.
The company says the phone comes with 12GB of RAM and 256 or 512GB of storage. As for the battery, the device has some generous specs. 5,000mAh capacity. It can be charged up to 40% in 15 minutes with the included 45 W charger. It also has stereo speakers and a side fingerprint sensor.
One part where the Phantom V Fold isn’t far behind is photography. The camera module does not go unnoticed due to its enormous dimensions. Specifically, we have a 50 MP wide-angle sensor, a 50 MP telephoto lens and a 13 MP ultra-wide angle. In addition, there is a 32 MP on the outer screen and an internal 16 MP camera.
Returning to the software part, the device runs on HiOS 13 Fold, a Tecno layer based on Android 13. At the price level, we find a terminal whose price will start in 2019, according to Engadget. $1,099 in India, one of the brand’s strongest markets. We do not know at this time whether it will reach other markets.
