Far too good. Apple seems to be getting close to this “right to repair” move, but things change when we get into their prices and terms. actually it changes so much it will be hard for you to understand. We will show you this with a few examples.
example 1. Imagine your iPhone 13 Pro screen cracked, no problem, Apple sells you a screen repair kit for $269. Do you know how much it costs to fix it in your stores? $279. There is more.
Example 2. You want to replace the battery with the same model. Apple is offering its official battery for $71. It costs $69 for someone to replace it for you at their store. Even cheaper.
As 9to5Mac pointed out, there are two details in both examples that change the equation in both directions. You need some tools to repair these devices: You can buy them, but Apple gives you the option: Rent a week for $49.
Not included here time cost that you will have to invest in the repair or that you risk damaging the device as a result of the repair itself.
This makes home repair even more expensive and risky, but the other detail is in the user’s favor: Apple offers the option to return the defective component for Apple recycling, which reduces the overall cost. The company gives you $33.60 for the “old” screen and $24.15 for battery.
There are other repairs that may be worth doing at home. replace iPhone 13’s camera $399 in store out-of-warranty: DIY kit is about $59 when you return the camera you replaced.
The official service was launched in the United States on a limited basis: it allows you to repair iPhone SE, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 in their variants. At Apple they stated that they will then offer these options for their Mac. We have no data on future availability of the service outside of the United States.
