In the Xiaomi battery, it is only the separator layer that separates the anode from the cathode. This barrier prevents a short circuit due to the formation of conductive growths on the electrodes – no such problem with the company’s invention.

The Xiaomi battery discharges much slower in the cold than conventional batteries. Loses about 20 percent less charge at -20 degrees Celsius, more than batteries made up of liquid components. According to the engineers, such a process is inevitable because the electrolyte becomes viscous in the cold, making it difficult for the lithium ions to move around.

Among the advantages of the new Xiaomi battery are also resistance to mechanical influences: It is much safer and will not catch fire if the bullet is damaged.

There is no doubt that Xiaomi will use similar batteries in its devices in the future, but that will only happen when the technology is mature enough to find application in mass production.
