Nubia Z50 Ultra review: design, features, expected price

Under-display cameras (UDC) still seem to be a part of the future, although selfies from such cameras are inferior to traditional smartphone selfie cameras. ZTE was the first major brand to launch a smartphone with this technology in 2020. The Chinese company is now ready to launch its fourth-generation under-display cameras with the Nubia Z50 Ultra. The brand will introduce a smartphone with UDC technology called Neovision on March 7. Before that, we decided to gather everything we know about the upcoming Nubia Z50 Ultra. You’ll find everything from specifications and design to the expected price in this post.

Design and display

The Nubia Z50 Ultra will be the brand’s latest flagship smartphone and is said to feature the latest hardware. It will also come with an impressive design that you will not see on any other brand phone. The new smartphone will focus on photography just like other flagship phones today. It will have a large camera module with two large rings and two small rings on the back.

The smartphone has a flat back and the edges are even flatter. Corners are slightly rounded. More interesting stuff is on the front end. As mentioned, the device will have an under-display selfie camera and will also be nearly invisible, meaning you get a notchless display. Although the concept is quite interesting, we still do not expect good selfies from him.

Z50 Ultra

The Z50 Ultra has a notification/alert slider on the right edge, while the speaker grill, SIM card slot and USB-C port will be at the bottom. There will be an IR blaster at the top.

The trailers reveal that the smartphone will feature a 6.8-inch display on the front with 1440Hz PWM dimming and UL eye protection certification. The display of the device was developed in collaboration with BOE, which offers a 2K display with a second generation display. It will feature ZTE’s fourth-generation under-display camera technology, Neovision UDC, which has been updated to offer better image quality.

Features

ZTE is said to have put the best hardware in the upcoming Nubia Z50 Ultra. The smartphone will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. The phone was recently tested on Geekbench and managed to score 5121 in the multi-core test and 1494 in the single-core test. The processor is interoperable with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage

The company has confirmed that the phone will be powered by a 5,000mAh battery, but no one knows how fast it charges. We expect the phone to support at least 80W fast charging. It is likely to have an under-display fingerprint sensor for security.

The smartphone will receive a 16-megapixel selfie camera under the panel, which is less noticeable than the Axon 40 Ultra or Galaxy Z Fold 4. Its front-facing camera will have a 2 µm (micrometer) setup. On the software front, the phone can run Android 13 right out of the box with the company’s own MyOS 13 interface.

In the rear camera department, the Nubia Z50 Ultra has a Sony IMX786 sensor capable of shooting at 1/1.3 inch optical format, 35mm equivalent focal length and 64 MP at f/1.6 as its primary camera. Diaphragm with OIS. Therefore, the main camera will create a narrower field of view compared to traditional smartphone cameras. It will have a 64MP periscope lens with OIS and a third camera with a 50MP sensor and 14mm equivalent focal length for ultra-wide-angle shots.

expected price

The Nubia Z50 Ultra will be available for purchase in three colours, black, white and a special starry night edition. The smartphone will be launched in China and is not expected to enter the global market anytime soon. Although there is no official information about its price, we can expect the starting price to be around $ 800-900. For reference, the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra, released last year, costs $769.
