The Nothing Phone (1) debuted as one of the most popular smartphones we’ve seen last year. While the phone partially lived up to its claim, many enthusiasts were disappointed with the chipset and wished for a more powerful SoC to be included in the phone’s specs. It looks like the next-gen Nothing Phone (2) won’t let people down as it’s more or less confirmed to have a powerful Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC.

During MWC 2023, Nothing confirmed that the upcoming Nothing Phone (2) will feature a Snapdragon 8-series processor, but did not specify which SoC. That’s now changing, as Alex Katuzian, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Qualcomm’s Mobile, Computing and XR division, confirmed in a LinkedIn post that the Phone (2) will feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.

The post has been edited, but a screenshot shared by 91Mobiles shows Katouzian revealing the phone’s chipset early. As a reminder, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was introduced in mid-2022 as a high-end SoC from Qualcomm. Based on the 4nm process, the chipset has an octa-core architecture. Prime Core is based on the ARM Cortex-X2 architecture with a clock frequency of up to 3.2 GHz.

While the chipset isn’t the brand’s newest product, it’s still pretty capable. It easily supports long-term gaming and multitasking. The Original Phone(1) debuted with the Snapdragon 778G+ processor, a mid-range processor system with decent performance. The Nothing Phone (2) is expected to launch later this year with 12GB of RAM, virtual RAM and 256GB of storage. It may have a 5,000mAh battery and will feature a 120Hz AMOLED display. Unlike phone (1), the upcoming phone will also hit the US market.
