Huawei may have made a technological breakthrough in the battery industry by revealing that it will upgrade the battery of its foldable smartphone, which is said to be the Mate X3. According to a well-known informant, Digital Chat Station, Huawei will use a high silicon anode material to increase the battery capacity to 5060mAh (typical value).

The new foldable smartphone will have a larger screen, which requires better battery life. The industry is currently facing limitations in improving the energy density of the cathode material of cell phone batteries. Huawei’s battery breakthrough will offer better energy density and higher battery capacity.

However, the high silicon batteries used in Huawei’s new mobile phone caused some technical difficulties. They have a large coefficient of volumetric expansion, low initial charge and discharge efficiency, and high resistivity. Huawei has overcome these issues by using carbon-coated structures and innovative flexible polymer binders to prevent expansion and spillage.

In addition, Huawei has included the use of lithium foil to support lithium, increasing the efficiency of initial charge and discharge by 26%. The company also used carbon nanotube technology in silicon anode batteries, which increases conductivity by a factor of four and improves the performance of silicon anode batteries.

The use of high silicon anode batteries in future foldable screen mobile phones will result in higher energy density, larger battery capacity and a 21% increase in energy density compared to conventional graphite anode materials. Huawei has also combined parallel AI power management, 15-level security protection and intelligent charging management to provide higher efficiency and safer charging.
