Sanctions were introduced by the US authorities to limit its access to materials that could contribute to the development of the Russian military industry. However, recent increases in chip imports from third countries have allowed Russia to circumvent these sanctions, raising US and EU concerns.
In a joint statement released Friday, US President Joseph Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said:
We are increasing our cooperation to aggressively enforce our sanctions and export control measures.
What will change for Russia?
The EU will more closely monitor the supply chain of critical electronic components to Russia through third countries, and the US will provide full support in this regard. US authorities are already pressing Turkey and the United Arab Emirates to cut trade with Russia. EU regulators were also warned of a significant increase in shipments of certain components from the region to some countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, which are suspected to be transit points for goods under sanctions against Russia.
According to Bloomberg, EU regulators will increase monitoring in this area to prevent further sanctions violations. The joint effort of the US and the EU aims to cut Russia off from supplies that can support its military industry.
As tensions between Russia and the West continue to escalate, efforts by the US and EU to control the supply of components sanctioned to Russia are becoming increasingly critical to the terrorist state. The collective efforts of the civilized world are aimed at ensuring that Russia’s access to components that can support its military industry is tightly controlled and regulated.
