Huawei launched its first foldable smartphone in 2019 and is now ready to launch its fourth-generation foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate X3 on March 23. The phone will share the stage with a few other products alongside the flagship Huawei P60 series. Huawei has been tight-lipped about the upcoming foldable display, but an industry expert recently revealed some of its specs. Details are here.

According to Ross Yang, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), the upcoming foldable Huawei Mate X3 will feature a 7.85-inch display, which is 0.15-inch smaller than the previous Mate X2. However, the diagonal size of the screen of the outer cover will not change and will be 6.45 inches.

Also, Yang said that the Mate X3 will be the first Huawei smartphone to use Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) technology. It is touted as having better durability and scratch resistance compared to the plastic-based foldable screens currently used in many foldable smartphones. It is reported that the folding screens of the Mate X3 are produced by the Chinese company BOE.

It was previously reported that the smartphone will have 2K resolution and will have an old Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor under the hood. However, since Huawei is not allowed to use 5G technology, the device is likely to use the 4G version of the chipset. It may have a 4,800mAh battery with 66W fast charging support.

At the head of the rear camera module of the device will be a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 camera supported by Sony IMX688 ultra-wide-angle lens and IMX351 periscope camera. The Huawei Mate X3 will run the company’s proprietary HarmonyOS 3 software right out of the box.
