iPhone 15 will have a USB-C port

The iPhone 15 series is scheduled to launch later this year, and there have been long-standing rumors that Apple will eventually adopt the USB Type-C standard. While many welcome this change, there seems to be a big problem, according to a leading analyst.

In the current smartphone market, the Cupertino-based giant is the only brand not to have this port format in its phone offering (although this is standard on some other product lines). For those who don’t know, Apple is making this notable change to comply with a European Union regulation to create an industry-wide port standard. While we already know that the company will adopt USB-C for its iPhones, well-known analyst Ming Chi-Kuo thinks this isn’t entirely good news.

Kuo shared some predictions claiming that the iPhone 15 series’ USB-C port will have some limitations. He believes the company will physically limit the cables that users can use with the new port. Interestingly, this isn’t the first report that Apple may be “sabotaging” the USB-C port on the iPhone. Previous rumors had also pointed to various limitations of the new USB Type-C ports.

It seems that only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be equipped with USB 3.2 ports. On the other hand, the basic iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models can rely on the slower and older USB 2.0 standard. Another aspect this affects is data transfer speeds; only on high-end models with high data transfer rates similar to iPad, with more expensive models only supporting a high data transfer rate of 40GB/s. Meanwhile, lower-end iPads only support 480 Mbps.
