It has become clear which Apple smartphones and tablets will receive updates to the new version of the operating system. This was reported by MacRumors.
Journalists cited an insider who said that iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 will be incompatible with smartphones and tablets based on the A11 Bionic chip or an older processor. So, the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, as well as the fifth-generation iPad and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro of the first generation will not receive the update – Apple considers these gadgets to be obsolete.
Specifically, iOS 17 will be available on iPhone Xs and Xs Max as well as newer models. In the case of iPadOS 17, the only exceptions would be the sixth and seventh generation iPad tablets with the A10 Fusion chip, as well as the second generation 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros with the A10X Fusion chip.
According to journalists, Apple has decided not to update its old smartphones and tablets due to the fact that the devices are exposed to various security vulnerabilities. For processor-based devices from A5 to A11, the iOS installer works in read-only format. Source
