The Xiaomi 12T Pro was launched globally at the end of last year and the smartphone was recently tested for a new feature. Today, Xiaomi and Qualcomm announced the successful verification of meter-level positioning on a smartphone. This new feature is reportedly having a significant impact on the performance of the Xiaomi 12T Pro when it comes to mapping, driving and other location-based mobile apps.

Positioning the measurement level on Xiaomi 12T Pro

According to a press release, Qualcomm and Xiaomi have successfully tested meter-level positioning on the Xiaomi 12 T Pro device based on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform. The feature is said to improve the overall smartphone user experience in various scenarios such as Maps, driving and other mobile apps.

This can improve accuracy when using ridesharing apps and make it easier for both drivers and passengers to find pickup locations. Meter-level positioning also improves fitness programs by allowing users to more effectively track outdoor activities such as cycling and running.

In addition, in-vehicle real-time navigation applications can benefit from increased accuracy in lane detection by providing drivers with more detailed maps and precise directions. Other apps that can take advantage of this feature include augmented reality games and location-based social networking apps.

The new feature that improves location features is made possible by a collaboration between Qualcomm and Trimble. Qualcomm Meter-Level Positioning for mobile and Trimble RTX complex correction were used to achieve “an unprecedented level of accuracy in a commercial smartphone.”

The companies conducted several validation tests, including driving tests in various scenarios such as open country roads and busy city highways. These tests showed that the Xiaomi 12T Pro was able to achieve meter-level positioning distribution with 95% confidence.
