Removable smartphone batteries are huge for a variety of reasons. One of the most important benefits is that they give users more control over their devices. Since the phone’s battery is removable, it can be easily replaced in case it gets damaged or starts to wear out. This means users can keep their phones longer without having to replace them entirely. Additionally, removable batteries can be replaced with larger or higher capacity batteries, which can extend the phone’s battery life and reduce the need for frequent charging.

Samsung is taking a step forward to make battery replacement easier on its latest Galaxy models. The Galaxy S23 already made it easy with the addition of latches for easy removal, but now the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 do the same with battery packs that have latches for easy replacement. Documentation from South Korean regulatory agency Safety Korea included photos of the batteries along with their dimensions, and all four batteries have tabs for easy removal.

While the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s secondary battery has a slightly lower capacity than its predecessor, it’s possible that Samsung is relying on the performance of the Galaxy’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset to extend battery life. It’s not yet clear which battery packs will replace these high-end models in the future, but Samsung’s efforts to make battery replacement easier are definitely a step in the right direction.
