Samsung’s next flagship, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, is expected to lack a camera compared to the previous model. The Galaxy S23 Ultra had four cameras on the back, including two telephoto cameras, but according to reliable experts, the Galaxy S24 Ultra could only have three cameras on the back. The missing camera was said to be a 3x telephoto camera.

However, according to Ice Universe, Samsung may have a new solution in mind. The company can use a continuous periscopic zoom lens that can zoom from 3x to 10x, similar to the telephoto camera module LG introduced last year. This allows a single telephoto camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra to do the work of both zoom cameras on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. In addition, this new camera can offer better image quality with intermediate zoom ranges that were not available in previous camera settings.

Another possibility is that Samsung is relying on its 200MP main camera, which can provide 3x digital zoom, equivalent to the 3x optical zoom on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This would completely eliminate the need for a separate telephoto camera.

Removing a camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra can offer a cleaner design for the back of the phone and reduce clutter. However, it’s best to take this information with a pinch of salt as plans can always change before the phone is officially released. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is Samsung’s best camera phone to date, with four cameras on the back capable of recording 4K video at 60fps. Two of these cameras are telephoto cameras that offer an unmatched zoom range compared to competing phones.
