Samsung’s triple-fold smartphone unlikely to launch in 2023

Samsung’s triple-fold smartphone is rumored to be by 2020, but so far we’ve only seen demos at trade shows. Rumors of an unusual smartphone surfaced again this year, with some suggesting it could be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event in August. Now, several industry experts are claiming that there is no tri-fold smartphone in the works and that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 could be foldable models of the Korean company.

Samsung’s third foldable tablet has been making headlines for a while with news that it will be a tablet called the Galaxy Z Tab. The device was supposed to have the largest foldable display the brand has ever released and could fold into three parts. However, there has been no concrete leak yet, and now experts are beginning to doubt its existence.

Famous leaker Max Jambor states in a tweet that details about the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 continue to emerge, but there are no major developments regarding the tri-fold device yet. Responding to the Jamboree, DSCC’s Ross Yang says there won’t be any third-party foldable Samsung devices in 2023, except for China-exclusive models. Danny Dorrestein of Sammobile shares the same sentiment.

Samsung is said to be working on a triple-folding smartphone since 2020, when the company introduced the technology and filed a patent for it. At this year’s MWC event, the brand’s display division unveiled a triple-fold smartphone concept, among other innovative phone designs. However, it looks like we’ll have to wait a few more years for Samsung to introduce a triple model.
