Software updates are important, but let’s face it: most Android manufacturers are not very good at releasing updates on time. This is not the case for Samsung as Samsung is on a whole different level with its software, releasing longer and more timely updates for all of its devices, including budget models. The brand gave another example to the industry recently by extending its 4-year upgrade policy to one of the cheapest A-series phones, the Galaxy A24.
Earlier this week, Samsung announced the Galaxy A24 as an affordable smartphone. It’s $300 less than the Galaxy A34. You might not even expect a phone this cheap to get updates on time, but Samsung continues to exceed expectations. The brand has confirmed that the Galaxy A24, which comes pre-installed with Android 13, will receive four more impressive major Android updates. That should mean the device will be updated to Android 17.
In early 2022, Samsung announced that it will offer four generations of One UI and Android OS updates and five years of security patches to its phones, starting with the Galaxy S21 series in 2021. Since then, the brand has expanded this updated policy to include more devices, with the latest being the Galaxy A24.
Note that even Google does not comply with Samsung’s software update policy. Other manufacturers, especially the Chinese like Oppo and OnePlus, are trying to bridge the gap by introducing four major updates, but this is expected to apply primarily to their flagships.
The Galaxy A24 has not yet entered major markets. It is currently available in Vietnam and several African countries with a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display and 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio G99 chip and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging.
