No one has made any significant effort to improve the software of his only smartphone, the Phone (1). It was released with Android 12 and Nothing pre-installed, and after months of testing, the company later released a stable update for Android 13. Interestingly, the Karl Pei-led initiative is launching the Phone (1) upcoming Android 14 Beta 1 program in the coming weeks. Currently, only Google’s Pixel phones have the privilege of receiving the beta update.
Karl Pei announced on Twitter that Nothing has early access to the new Android 14 Beta 1 update. However, as the Android 14 beta for Pixel has already rolled out to eligible devices, the smartphone will be one of the first non-Google devices to receive a standalone preview phase.
The Nothing Phone (1) currently runs on Android 13 with the company’s proprietary skin. It is noteworthy that the software on the smartphone is extremely smooth with minimal settings. There was nothing fancy, including a matrix design that coordinates with the Glyph interface on the back, and more than a dozen ringtones and notification sounds.
Specifically, Android 14 beta offers several new features and improvements. First, it improves the overall navigation experience by offering an enhanced navigation back gesture. Additionally, the beta version includes an improved sharing table that makes data sharing between different apps easier and seamless. Another important addition is the introduction of separate ringtone and notification volume sliders that give users more control over the sound settings on their device.
