On May 10, that same week, we have an appointment with Google for its annual event. Google I/O 2023. While it’s true that this talk/conference usually focuses heavily on developers, it’s an event that Big G leverages to introduce new hardware and services and is therefore worth paying attention to.

This year also promises strong emotions. We know that Google has quite a few devices in the oven, and given the importance AI has gained this year, we’re likely to see more news in this area. Not to mention Android 14, Pixel 7a, and the upcoming Pixel, yes, that’s real. So, to warm up the engines, we will review Everything we expect from Google I/O 2023.

Google Pixel Fold

One of the most anticipated innovations that we have been talking about for years is Google’s folding mobile phone. Rivers of ink have been written about this device for a long time, and now, we finally know it’s real. There have been countless rumors and leaks, but only yesterday Google confirmed not only its existence, but its design. Google I/O will be available in 2023.

Google has been showing its paw in different areas lately. It already has mobile experience, but last year it tried its first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, and this year will do with a fold. Android is a Google operating system and this is a good opportunity to show what Android can achieve when optimized for a folding device.

what do we know about Pixel Fold? We officially know his design. The terminal drinks from the latest Google Pixel 7 for the rear, with a horizontal camera module for the cameras. It is a folding book type, meaning it folds inward horizontally and has two screens, one in the front and one inside. The latter is the largest, and if anything stands out (apparently generous) it’s the side bezels.

The rest of the technical sheet left in the air, because Google has not disclosed any information about it.. Aside from the price, we don’t know about its availability either. In any case, there’s not much left to see with our own eyes, so it’ll be a matter of time before we find out for sure.

Google Pixel 7a

Pixel Fold will not be the only mobile device we will see during the presentation. There have been countless rumors and leaks about the Google Pixel 7a, the affordable terminal. It’s not official by any means, but there are enough reasons to think that the company will refresh the Pixel Xa lineup with a new model.

On the one hand, there is tradition. We’ve been seeing Pixel terminals with the “a” suffix for years now, and there’s no reason to think it won’t happen this year. On the other hand, there are also leaks that are not uncommon. In fact, it’s relatively easy to summarize a fairly complete spec sheet of the device, most of the specs we “know” in quotes, and even its design courtesy of the usual leakers.

Pixel 7a if not official Expect an OLED display at 90 Hz (finally) and the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro’s G2 rendering. Beyond that, an interesting leap forward in terms of camera and resolution is expected in the battery, especially alongside news about the arrival of wireless charging. There’s talk of a 64-megapixel sensor signed by Sony, but let’s see.

Google PixelTablet

And the last device we expect to see at Google I/O 2023, PixelTabletproduct that never arrived. We know it exists because Google introduced it a while ago, but they previously warned us that there is a 2023 product whose launch has been delayed. We’ve been hearing about a Google tablet for years, and unless there’s a last-minute change, everything points out that Google I/O will be the framework of choice to deliver a decent presentation.

The Pixel Tablet was announced at Google I/O 2022 and we don’t know anything about its specs. What we know and official is that he will have the ability to: connect to a home and act as if it were a Nest Hub. We also expect a first-generation Google Tensor that will frame the tablet in the mid-range. That’s the theory, as it’s also rumored that there will be a Pro version with a Tensor G2 processor, but it’s rumored that this will eventually be the version that launches as a plain Pixel Tablet, so we’ll have to wait to find out. Definitely.

For the rest, leaks suggest an 11-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, eight gigabyte LPDDR5 RAM memory and 256GB internal storage. No word on price and availability, at least for now.

Android 14

We leave the hardware aside to talk about Android 14, which is sure to be one of the biggest players of the event. While it’s true that closed betas have been around for a while, Google I/O 2023 is an important moment because it’s not just the software on offer. open Trial version For Pixel and other devices that allow us to test the news in advance. And speaking of news, the truth is that very little is known.

We know there will be more precise Bluetooth positioning and AV1 codec support, as well as new measures to stop malware, such as a system that prevents us from installing older versions of both the Google Play Store and third-party apps. You continue to come across Material as a design language, but we don’t know of a more flashy feature for now. Basically, Android 14 comes to evolve and evolve rather than revolutionize.

As tradition dictates, after this event we will have access to open betas to attend the official launch in the last bars of the year. The Google Pixel will be among the first to be updated, and then it will be up to each company to announce the update schedule.

A strong commitment to artificial intelligence

Finally, Google is expected to show news about artificial intelligence. Given the success of ChatGPT and Bing chatbot (based on GPT-4), Google announced its own proposal, Bard, based on LaMDA, in February. We’ve already seen this implemented in Google Workspace (for example, for writing emails). Expected during Google event more about distribution and maybe, with some luck, it’ll let us test it outside of the office suite.

We remember: Google I/O 2023 will take place on May 10 at 19:00., Spanish peninsula time. We’ll cover all the news from Xataka on the web, so don’t go too far, Google event is just around the corner.
