There are enough smartphones on the market that meet IP68 and even IP69 degrees of protection. However, there are still not many devices protected according to the IP69K rating description. A few days ago, we reported that HMD Global introduced the Nokia XR21 protected smartphone. It was reported to have an IP69 rating at the time, but it turned out to be the company’s first IP69K smartphone.

IP69K and IP68 have the highest level of dust protection, meaning they completely prevent dust from entering, but are also significantly better than IP68 in terms of waterproofing. Devices with an IP69 rating are washable, only the IP69K certification ensures that the device can withstand close range water/steam washing under high pressure and high temperature. To be more precise, we are talking about pressure up to 100 bar and temperature up to 80 °C.

What makes the Nokia XR21 so special is that it looks like a regular smartphone while being as protected as possible and lacks the jagged reinforced corners like most Chinese rugged smartphones.

The Nokia XR21 is equipped with a Snapdragon 695 single-chip system, a 6.49-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, dual cameras and a 4800mAh battery. Earlier, Nokia introduced the Nokia 110 (2023), Nokia 106 (2023) and Nokia 105 (2023) button phones.
