The technology has already received approval from the JEDEC Association. However, smartphones will not only increase productivity, but also reduce energy consumption, which is especially important in the 5G era.

Features of the new memory

  • UFS 4.0 drives have up to 23.2 gigabits per second bandwidth – Twice as UFS 3.1.
  • Thanks to the advanced memory of the seventh generation Samsung V-NAND and the use of proprietary controller, the company was able to increase the sequential read speed to 4200 megabits per second and the write speed to 2800 megabits per second.
  • With energy efficiency has also increased: 46 percent improvement over 3rd generation UFSThis means an increase in sequential read speed of 6 megabits per second at the unit current consumption cost.
  • The size of the module is no more than 11x13x1 millimeters.
  • The maximum capacity is 1 terabyte.

Mass production of new flash memory starts in the third quarter this year. The first smartphones with UFS 4.0 drivers are probably not expected to hit the market before 2023. Of course, Samsung will not only supply modules to third-party gadget manufacturers, but also install them on its own smartphones and tablets. Among the first devices will likely be the Galaxy S23 series. In addition, the novelty could receive the Galaxy Fold 4 and Galaxy Flip 4.

Samsung says the new memory is ideal for 5G smartphones, automation tools, and virtual and augmented reality devices.
