With televisions in the home having increasingly larger screens, we have another area that has become a real magnet for dust and fingerprints. That’s why it is necessary to pay special attention to this. If we want to keep it clean, this is a process where not everything goes smoothly.

We’ve seen how you can clean your television screen correctly and effectively, but the advent of increasingly delicate panels means using traditional methods isn’t always right. Even manufacturers suggest ways to clean our television screen without damaging it, and Samsung has done just that, even creating an official guide.

The screen is always clean

The Korean manufacturer is one of the most important companies when it comes to television production. Among their newest and successful launches are models with QD-OLED screens with QLED technology in their catalogue.

Manufacturers invest a large amount of money into developing new technologies in their panels and therefore it is vital that the panels are maintained even when it comes to their cleaning. That’s why Samsung has prepared a special guide detailing the correct method of cleaning the screens of these new generation panels.

Suede

At the beginning we told you what, according to Samsung, some of the elements required for proper cleaning are:

  • Three soft microfiber cloths, the kind you can buy at the supermarket
  • 70% ethanol solution as solvent.

The reason to clean the TV isn’t just for aesthetics. It is about removing dirt and smudges that can accumulate and cause more reflections and a decrease in brightness, worsening the imaging quality.

However, if we try to remove these dirt and stains with products that are not suitable and not recommended by the manufacturer, we may eliminate or damage the anti-reflective layer contained in the panel. This is an essential part that is responsible for eliminating small and annoying reflections that cause the image to look bad in many cases.

In general, anti-reflective coatings on television screens are designed to reduce reflections and increase visibility in brightly lit environments. These layers are typically optical coatings that minimize the amount of light reflected from the screen.

The anti-reflective layer uses the “moth eye” system. It is a technology used to improve image quality and reduce reflections on some television screens and electronic devices. It is based on the use of a special coating applied to the screen surface, designed to reduce unwanted reflections and increase the visibility of the screen, especially in environments with strong ambient lighting.

To do this, it uses a structure consisting of nanometric cones that are responsible for facilitating the absorption of reflections by the panel until the incidence of reflections is reduced by 99.7%, imitating the anti-reflective properties of moths’ eyes. This aims to minimize the amount of light reflected on the screen, providing a better visual experience for the viewer.

This type of technology is used, for example, in QD-OLED panels to offer improved image quality and more comfortable viewing in various lighting conditions. And this is such delicate technology, so much so that Samsung has prepared a tutorial to avoid damaging the TV when cleaning it.

How to properly clean the TV?

Clean

The Korean company has prepared a step-by-step tutorial in which it explains the correct system for cleaning the television panel using the materials we have seen above.

Unplug the TV

The first thing to do when cleaning the TV, and generally “fooling around” with any device, is to unplug it from the outlet. Both for our own safety and to be careful with the device, because this action will reduce the electrostatic charge.

Dust

Now it’s time to remove the most superficial dirt, in this case dust. We can do this with a soft cloth by ensuring that the movements we make are made in one direction. In this case, it is recommended to use a microfiber cloth here, as this cloth is specifically designed to collect dust and minimize the possibility of scratching the panel from dust.

clean the dirt

With superficial society long gone, it’s time to put an end to the most resilient of them all, including the fingerprints that stick to the television screen every time we touch it, whether accidentally or not.

Here, the brand recommends using 70% ethanol, which also works to remove oil stains. Simply spray the ethanol onto another microfiber cloth, but always avoid spraying it directly onto the screen.

Using a microfiber cloth moistened with an ethanol mixture, you can clean the surface carefully, always making movements in the same direction as in the previous case. They also recommend avoiding paper towels because they often leave lint.

Wait for the screen to dry

After cleaning with cloth and ethanol, we must wait for the screen to dry completely. It doesn’t take very long with ethanol, but you should never touch the screen while it dries to avoid fingerprints and smudges.

Finish with another wipe

After the screen dries, you can wipe the surface again with a clean microfiber cloth, although it is not necessary. The aim is to remove any last traces of dirt that may remain on the screen. And as in the previous case, movements always need to be made in the same direction.
