Sony promises mobile phones will soon surpass mirrors in photo quality

In the last decade, cell phone cameras have advanced more than ever before. High-resolution, wide-angle lenses, macro shooting – smartphones are getting closer to professional cameras every year and are ready to compete in some cases. Perhaps the day when phones will surpass mirrors in photo quality is not far off?

Terosh Shimizu, president and co-CEO of Sony Semiconductor (manufacturer of CMOS image sensors), is sure of that. According to Shimizu, smartphones will surpass SLR cameras in terms of photographic capabilities in 2024. This result can be achieved by increasing the aperture of mobile optics, improving lenses and using artificial intelligence to combine individual pixels into a single image.

Also, the head of Sony Semiconductor made a small prediction for the future – by 2030 it is likely that all smartphones will switch to video in 8K resolution and receive the function of high-speed continuous shooting, as in full-size cameras. . Overall, Sony’s plans are big and to implement them by 2023, the company aims to expand its production area by 60% and increase the production of image sensors for the entire mobile market.
