LG continues to develop its OLED panel technology with the microlens array, a technology that we can find in its most complete and advanced televisions in the catalog. The increase in brightness and image quality compared to traditional WOLED panels makes them an excellent response to the QD-OLED panels developed by Samsung, which after two years of televisions with this technology has proven to be a formidable rival.

However, LG seems ready to do everything to update the technology of its panels and raise the bar even higher. According to Korean media ETNews, the company has developed its first panel with PHOLED technology, which we have already mentioned in the Xataka Smart Home and which aims to improve the performance of the current OLED panels in televisions.

The secret lies in PHOLED technology

Everything indicates that PHOLED technology is the next step that LG plans to follow to improve the image quality and brightness of its televisions, after the great progress of Samsung’s QD-OLED panels and LG’s MLA panels. This technology will increase the efficiency of blue light by 25% to 100% and will result in a significant reduction in energy consumption of around 25%.

You could also choose another path: increase the brightness of the TVs even further, which still remains the Achilles heel of OLED TVs compared to the latest MiniLED panel offerings on the market.

According to Korean media, LG would already have the first OLED panel with this technology ready, which they call the “dream OLED material” and “the final piece of the OLED puzzle.” “We have successfully developed an OLED panel based on blue phosphorescence. I understand that they plan to conduct evaluations on the performance of mass production and work on marketing within a year,” commented the media.

The panel is expected to be a tandem of two units using a hybrid method that will combine the efficiency of blue phosphorescent panels with the lifespan of existing OLED panels. To do this, LG Display will use Universal Display’s PHOLED technology.
