LG’s 2022 OLED TVs have received a firmware update that adds an additional feature to the work of Dolby Vision on these TVs. In addition to being compatible with Dolby Vision IQ to enjoy content with high dynamic range, they are now also offered Dolby Vision Precision Detail, a proposal-based improvement. better view in dark scenesby applying an extra detail.

Although the function for LG televisions was announced last June, they have not yet started to receive updates in our region. For Dolby Vision Precision Detail to work properly, the television must have an Alpha 9 Gen 5 processor. only available on LG C2, G2 and Z2although the update seems not ready for the last mentioned model.

A technology that improves details in dark scenes

The idea of โ€‹โ€‹Dolby Vision Precision Detail, apply extra detail in those dark scenes. This is an improvement over the Dolby Vision IQ, and while it’s an extra that some might consider harming the image (given that it offers a slightly less natural effect), it’s an addition that benefits users who find it frustrating. especially for viewing dark scenes.

This technology, combined with Dolby Vision IQ, TV responds to outside light conditions, thus changing the image according to the lighting in the room. The feature is optional and if we want to turn it on or off we can find the option in Image settings > Advanced > Sharpness.

Dolby’s idea extend this technology to televisions from other manufacturers. It’s currently exclusive to LG TVs, but it’s very likely we’ll see it on other Smart TVs from 2023.

The firmware update for LG TVs not only added this new Dolby feature, but also made improvements in black management, AirPlay, content playback with the AV1 codec, voice recognition and more. Although the company has not shown all the changes of this new update, they have compiled all the improvements brought by the new version of webOS on the AVSForum.

If you still cannot find the update from your TV’s menu, you can install the update manually via USB and by downloading it from the LG support website.
