Regarding storage capacity, we have mentioned on other occasions the problems presented by some devices with Android TV or Google TV. Chromecast with Google TV is the best example of this and we have already seen how we can solve it at home.
Considering that the space is shared with whatever the operating system occupies, there are more possibilities to expand the available memory in which applications will be installed. For this reason It is important to delete all content that does not concern us. This is what happened to me with the latest update to my Smart TV, which added a few apps to optimize storage capacity and that I neither use nor request.
straight into the trash
A few days ago, I have already mentioned something that recently happened to me with my Smart TV. and this fact served me as an article. It was not possible to update a system app like Chromecast Built-in and after researching I found the cause of the problem.
There was very little free space, something that caught my attention as I haven’t installed any apps in a while. The only change I made was this: Update the TV with a firmware downloaded via OTA.
Specifically, the update was this and aimed to fix some bugs. The problem is that when I notice between apps, Some were even installed that I did not use and that I did not want.. Below these lines I have grouped them in a single row.
A set of references that I don’t want and don’t want
ATRESplayer, Vodafone TV, Rakuten TV, Dazn, Movistar. Of all of them I don’t use Vodafone or Movistar because I’m on a different operator so they don’t concern me and platforms I don’t subscribe to are the same thing as Rakuten or DAZN.
For their part, I’m not interested in ATRESplayer or RTVE Play either, but they took up valuable space within the eight gigabytes of capacity I had there. That’s another topic of discussion. Same as Chromecast with Google TV, eight GB of space to share with OSIt makes you think on a TV that exceeds 2.000 Euros in 2023.
Space available on the TV when the initial setup process is complete
The truth is that each of these applications takes up an interesting, not excessive, space, but this is very important when you are approaching the limit of storage capacity. For example, in the picture above, Space available on the TV when the initial setup process is complete and without installing any extra apps. To begin with, almost half of the available gigabytes are already full, and among all the applications, I did not claim some.
After all these checks were done, the next step was nothing but eliminating one of the apps that didn’t interest me. To do this, I had to get into “Settings” to access the television by clicking the cog wheel. “Adjustment” and we go to the section “Applications”. The ones I’ve removed and those that don’t interest me are grouped under these lines on a screen.
Initially, all the apps, including the apps I installed and wanted to use, were taking up 3.2GB of space. And now it was time to clean up to see how much had been earned. And this This 3.2GB will increase significantly as you install some addons on Kodi or as apps get used. and accumulate cache. I did all the operations with the TV from scratch.
At the end of the cleaning period, deleting only the apps I ordered and not interested in, I had gotten rid of a very precious 200 MB. when the storage capacity is too tight.
Like this I was able to fix the low storage capacity of my Smart TV and its increase is affected by the installation of unwanted applications, a problem that we have seen before, especially how it affects some mobile brands and can be transferred to the television market.
