Nowadays we can buy almost everything we can afford online, from toilet paper to cars. If this is the case, we can say that the future of our shopping behavior depends on the policies of e-commerce sites. Because in fact in every product we buy, We pay both the seller and the e-commerce platform.

Most of us know, but let’s explain for those who don’t know; e-commerce platforms, is a marketplace where sellers open their own online stores, much like a shopping mall. You can buy a product from more than one seller on the same e-commerce site, with different prices and campaigns. The e-commerce site, on the other hand, receives a certain commission on the price of the product, regardless of which seller you buy it from.

It was requested to apply a cap and a floor to the commission rates of e-commerce sites

In its statement, the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK) complained about the commission rates of e-commerce sites. (TESK) Chairman Bendevi Palandöken said in his statement on this topic: “Varies depending on service received, Commission up to 45 percent Floor and ceiling applications must be included in the rates” he said.

Palandöken stated that high commission rates increase prices by as much as 20%.On the other hand, the costs of advertising incurred by the sites should not be passed on to the merchants. Our e-commerce merchants Shouldn’t be forced to give a discount once a week‘ he said. So if the ceiling-floor application requested by TESK comes, what will be the impact on us?

Having a floor-ceiling application between commission rates prevents e-commerce sites from raising product prices with exorbitant commission rates and prevents platforms from creating an unfair competitive environment by abnormally lowering commission rates. This is in total Prepare the environment for a drop in product pricesr in which case the winner is the consumer.
