Especially in environments where walls come in and you are away from the modem, 5 GHz remains in the class. The 2.4 GHz frequency, on the other hand, can go through walls and ensures healthy internet at a great distance due to the larger frequency range.

2.4GHz vs 5GHz Speed ​​Test

Regardless of what we wrote, these are things that remain in theory. To put them into practice, I compared the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies on the same device to a dual-frequency modem in my own home. You can watch the test video I made below:

In the video I prepared, I did a speed test on both frequencies in 3 different parts of the house. In addition to the modem, the 5 GHz frequency is observed to reach a download speed of 45.7 Mbps while the 2.4 GHz frequency has a download speed of 31.8 Mbps. We see you staying.

Because of this I applied the same test by moving 9 meters away with 3 walls in between. At this point I saw that the 5 GHz only got 0.74 Mbps download speed. 2.4 GHz, on the other hand, continued to provide an internet that would work for me at least at 8.08 Mbps.

First of all, this test I did was just to better understand the difference between these two technologies. It didn’t happen in a lab setting, but in completely natural conditions with a home internet. Although there are different names in Speedtest’s name section for the internet resource, it was connected through the same modem and internet. While 5 GHz is a very successful technology at short distances, we can see that 2.4 GHz is extremely useful for saving the day over long distances. Because the values ​​here are not in the lab environment, they can’t give a definitive result, but they can help us understand the technologies.
