For years, scientists have studied and tried to discover the origin of intense gamma rays inside Through lactic, the galaxy we’re in. Some of those recorded had a charge of more than 1 petaelectronvolt, and many researchers considered this a “sign” of dark energy, but the explanation could be much simpler.

According to a new study, a phenomenon known as GeV excess from the galactic center (GCE) – could be caused by millisecond pulsars of neutron stars, known as the most extreme objects in the Universe after black holes.

A recent study by the Australian National University and published in the journal Nature Astronomy suggests that stars that rotate about 100 times per second on their axis may be responsible for the gamma rays. The basis for this growing theory is simple: the idea of dark matter has hypothetical components.

GCE would be caused by dark matter if it were formed by a series of elements called WIMPS – physically interacting massive particles – gamma rays in the Milky Way suggest its existence, not vice versa. So far, there is no evidence that weaklings really exist in the universe.

Neutron stars in millisecond pulsars also emit gamma rays.

Neutron stars with millisecond pulsars also emit gamma rays, and scientists have already detected this phenomenon in objects close to the solar system.

To lay the foundation for a study that “blames” these stars for GCE, the authors created a model that confirmed the compatibility between detections in the Milky Way and already known pulsars.

We know that these objects [estrelas de nêutrons] emit gamma rays,” commented Roland Crocker, an Australian National University professor and team member.

Even though it is based on stronger data than dark matter, more observations will still be required to prove the influence of pulsars on GCE. According to Crocker, our neighboring galaxy Andromeda it also emits gamma ray signals that appear to come from neutron stars.
