Pictures show rocks covered with dust. It doesn’t sound very interesting, but the last image caught the attention of users: it shows a lot of lonely rocks, likened to a cemetery.

The image shows stones scattered close together and looks like a small cemetery. Users started sharing photos and making assumptions about what was shown on them.

Perseverance is NASA’s fifth rover. It was launched in July 2020 and landed on Mars in February 2021. Its main purpose is to collect stone and soil samples and look for possible traces of life.

This spacecraft will be the first phase of a Mars Sample Return Mission (MSR) mission to deliver Martian soil to Earth. This issue will take 11 years to resolve and will be the first attempt in history to deliver sand and stone samples from Mars.
