While Microsoft has already confirmed that Windows 11 22H2 is ready, the company has yet to announce a release date for the first major update to its operating system. For those who don’t want to wait, it’s already possible to upgrade to the new version before the official release – just follow the instructions described in this post.

There are two ways to upgrade to Windows 11 21H2, both of which require users to join the Windows Insider Program: one involves upgrading through Windows Update, and the other involves using an ISO image of the operating system.

Observation: As long as Windows 11 22H2 is ready, it will continue to receive cumulative updates before and after release.

Method 1 – Update to Windows 11 22H2 via Windows Update

To upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 through Windows Update, first join the Windows Insider Program by opening the Settings app and clicking Windows Insider Program in Windows Update.

In the Windows Insider Program area, click the icon Introduction to begin:

You must now link your Microsoft account to the program as shown below:

On the next step select beta channel not Dev channel:

After completing the above steps, restart your computer, run Windows Update and Windows 11 22H1 build 22621 will be prompted for download.

To exit the Windows Insider Program after upgrading to a new version of the operating system, simply navigate back to the program area and select the option “Deregister this device when the next version of Windows is released”. This basically means that the user’s PC will be automatically removed from the Windows Insider Program when Windows 11 22H2 officially goes public:

Method 2 – Upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 using ISO

To upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 using OS ISO, first go to Windows Insider Program Downloads from by this link and sign in with your Microsoft account associated with the Windows Insider Program.

on the menu Choose edition select the option “Windows 11 Insider Preview (Beta Channel) – Build 22621“, which already includes the Home and Pro editions, and click the Confirm proceed:

Now select your language and click Confirm:

Download the ISO image of Windows 11 22H2 build 22621. It is important to remember that The download link will expire 24 hours after it was created:

Once the download is complete, open File Explorer, right-click on the ISO file, and select Install:

Now click on setup.exe to start the update process:
