A team of Mexican scientists from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, led by astrophysicist Luis Rodríguez, investigated this mystery after European Space Agency (ESA) astronomers drew attention to these strange objects.

Using the infrared capabilities of the James Webb Telescope, scientists discovered JuMBO pairs that resemble celestial partners on the cosmic stage.

Scientists noted that the main purpose was to study the radio signals emitted by these unusual objects. Examining data from the archives of the US National Radio Astronomy Observatory, they focused on a particular pair: JuMBO 24and found that it did indeed emit a signal.

More questions

JuMBO 24’s features deepened the mystery. Not only were these planet-sized objects heavier than their counterparts, but the space between them was unusually narrow.

Adding to the intrigue, JuMBO 24’s radio emission did not match the typical rotating spiral waves associated with planetary magnetic fields. Instead, the waves were described as strong but stable, unlike the variability of radio waves from other celestial bodies such as brown dwarfs, planets or pulsars.

Determining the origin of these waves has been difficult: Researchers estimate there is only a 1 in 10,000 chance that the radiation is coming from something behind JuMBO 24.
