Two years

Simon Still, secretary-general of the United Nations Climate Change Convention, issued the stark warning at a public event in London on Wednesday. “Who exactly has two years to save the world? The answer is every person on this planet.”– said.

We still have a chance to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with new generation national climate plans. But we need these stronger plans now.
– Still added.

Reuters noted that the two years cited by Reuters is a bit of an exaggeration, as climate experts generally say the world must drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 to prevent global temperatures from rising above 1.5 degrees Celsius. So we’re talking about six years.

Most researchers believe that exceeding this threshold would mean deadlier storms, more intense heat waves, more damage to agriculture, the destruction of entire ecosystems, cascading climate change, and other bleak problems for the planet.

Disappointing statistics

Unfortunately, energy-related carbon dioxide emissions reached a new high last year. The UN has released a report stating that even if governments around the world stick to current plans to mitigate the effects of global warming, the planet is on track to surpass the 1.5-degree limit and reach 2.5 degrees Celsius by 2100.

Against this backdrop, scientists are exploring radical solutions to combat global warming, from removing carbon from the atmosphere to the controversial method of solar geoengineering. Although some methods are not effective enough, some may cause more harm than good. But so far we don’t have anything effective enough to save us. So at some point we may not have a choice.
