But somewhere in human evolutionary history, this photoreceptor switched to detecting violet waves rather than ultraviolet waves. Maybe because we lived longer than other animals, we couldn’t afford to damage our eyes, or maybe because the ability to see ultraviolet light turned into blurry vision for those older creatures.
