In recent months we have had some interesting phenomena such as meteor showers. Eta Aquarids, which gave interesting results for enthusiasts in various regions, as well as well-known Blood Moon. We’ll have a few more events this month that are worth checking out, even if they’re not as flashy. In any case, check out the basic astronomical events of June 2022:
Blood moon: a lunar eclipse can be seen this weekend in Brazil The phenomenon will occur early in the morning from Sunday to Monday.
Supermoon (14/06)
From the 14th, on the night of Tuesday, it will be possible to observe the supermoon when the natural satellite is in the closest position to our planet. The Moon is estimated to be 30% brighter and 15% larger (in perspective) than usual.
Mercury’s greatest western elongation (6/16)
This will be the period when Mercury will be at its furthest point from the Sun, or, as some people call it, at its “greatest western elongation.” As a result, for enthusiasts, the planet is less dazzled by the glare to which it is normally exposed and is easier to observe. However, as is usually the case with astronomical phenomena, anyone who wants to enjoy this phase must be in a place without light pollution and fairly open.
June Solstice (21/06)
It is the shortest day of the year, common at the start of winter in the southern hemisphere. The northern hemisphere is already entering summer, and unlike the southern hemisphere, it will have the earliest day of 2022. This phenomenon occurs because the Sun reaches its greatest declination in latitude with respect to the equator, as a result of which the rolling rays reach one of the hemispheres of the Earth, initiating the already known characteristics of summer with all its advantages and disadvantages.
Micromun (28.06)
As the opposite of a supermoon, this phase occurs when a natural satellite is at its furthest point from our planet, also known as “apogee”. On the 28th, another Tuesday, it will be possible to observe the stars without the interference of the normal brightness of the Moon. However, it is worth noting that this will be a new phase, a period more hidden from enthusiasts.
