Astronomer at the US Naval Observatory Ciprian T. Barghea, first observed this structure in 2016. After many years, it was observed that there was no change in the disk. This situation caused both a great surprise and discussions about what this structure was.
Following previous work, two researchers from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory I looked at the structure again. According to their paper, IRAS 2307 is actually made up of a young star and the debris surrounding it. This enormous debris disk is the largest debris ever observed and shines like a butterfly in the darkness of space.
While the first article received approval for publication, the other article was published on May 13. In Astrophysical Journal Letters published. By examining these structures, astronomers are investigating both how the Earth was formed and how planets formed. IRAS 2307, this star two or three times as massive as the Sun, has formed a disk with a radius 300 times the distance between the Sun and Jupiter.
