Among the main events we will have a Supermoon and Mercury’s major western elongation.
According to the article, the researchers used data from China’s recent lunar missions to create the map. Much of the information collected and incorporated into the image was collected during the Chinese lunar exploration program over the past 15 years. In addition, the map is supplemented with qualitative data from research missions from other countries such as the US, Japan and India.
geological layers of the moon
You can view several geological layers and surfaces of the natural satellite of the Earth, including 12,341 impact craters, 81 impact pools, 17 types of stones as well as 14 types of structures.
The map uses a projection Mollweide, which is widely used in the development of world maps. A full-size map is available from the National Space Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Click here to access it. Look at the thumbnail photo below.
With this new geologic breakdown, in addition to being used for more lunar geologic maps, researchers will be able to access the map to discover the best landing sites for future lunar exploration missions.
“In this cartographic work, the main principle is to consider the Moon as geological units and the history of evolution from a dynamic point of view, that is, endogenous or exogenous. The datasets and products of the China Lunar Exploration Program (CLEP) are used as the primary data for mapping geologic units. With important additional data, we are also collecting high quality datasets and products from international research missions.”This is reported by the research team in an article for publication in the journal Science Bulletin.
