The drink, obtained as a result of the method of brewing coffee with the help of laser, is characterized by a high caffeine content, good taste and a fast preparation method.

How to brew cold coffee with laser

Researchers at the University of Duisburg in Essen, Germany, used a laboratory laser and tuned it to deliver 125 picojoules pulses of 10 picoseconds. The laser pulse was then passed through a mixture of ground coffee and water for about three minutes. In this way, the beam passes through the drink up to 80,000 times per second.

As a result, it was possible to get a drink that is in no way inferior to classic cold brew, but is brewed much faster. At the same time, the indicator of acidity (one of the properties of coffee) is almost no different from the traditional method of preparation, and the caffeine level turned out to be closer to ordinary hot coffee.

At the same time, scientists claim that “laser” coffee can be developed if it is brewed this way for a few more minutes. Then the drink will be more aromatic and have a higher caffeine content.

The team has high hopes for the commercialization of the technology and plans to work on mass laser coffee brewing systems for use in cafes.

By the way, about lasers. Recently, scientists have used them to direct lightning strikes to the right place. To do this, they illuminated the area above the Sentis tower in the Swiss mountains during a storm for two months. Of the 16 lightning strikes that struck the tower during the observation, four were laser directed.
