Apple Watch Series 8: improved sensors and a greater focus on user health

Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 8 during its event in early September, and right after the presentation, we rushed to the site to be on the safe side and share our first impressions with you.

New sensors

In addition to general improvements in blood pressure measurement, blood oxygenation, electrocardiogram and sleep monitoring, Apple Watch Series 8 brought a long-awaited tool for fans of the brand: temperature sensor.

All of these sensors allow the user to track their health within the app, and we’ve seen Apple’s focus on this segment growing in recent years. For example, a fall detector to help keep an eye on the elderly, an oxygen level meter to help victims of respiratory illnesses like Covid, and now a temperature sensor that comes with menstrual cycle software.

The cycles tool has received an update and is undoubtedly the highlight of this generation of Apple Watch. It has become more modern, smarter and with more data protection. The new sensor brings major improvements that can detect ovulation stages, giving more options for preventing pregnancy or making life easier for those who want to have children.

All this information is important for identifying symptoms of other diseases. All this data is, of course, end-to-end encrypted, and only you or whoever you want can have access to this information.

collision detection

The Watch Series 8 introduced a crash detection mode. For this feature, Apple has supplied a new accelerometer and gyroscope to detect crashes and even rollovers. If an accident occurs, the watch or even the iPhone will call 911 and ask for help.

Fitness

For those who love sports, the Fitness Modes have been updated and are still compatible with the Apple Fitness+ app. In terms of extreme sports, Apple has released the Watch Ultra for more advanced users. But we’ll leave that for another video.

design

In terms of design, we noticed that Apple has not made significant changes to the look of the new watch compared to the previous model. The case (also called the case) continues the standard design with rounded edges.
