Have you ever thought about what it would be like to see The sun, the main star of our system and responsible for life on Earth, in high resolution? At the end of March was AgencyspatialEuropean (ESA) published images of the star in the best resolution ever made to date.
Not only that, the organ also “divided” the sun into four different hills, which represent the temperature of each of its layers. In them, you can get an idea of the temperature in a star and how things are in the universe in a more “extreme” way.

The main cover photo for this article is a mosaic of 25 individual images taken with a high-resolution telescope. extremeultravioletimager scanner, part of the Solar Orbiter satellite. It contains over 83 million pixels and a 9148 x 9112 pixel grid. According to the agency, this is the most complete, highest-resolution photograph of the solar corona ever taken. Note that the Earth is displayed in the upper right corner with its size relative to the Sun when scaled.
The sun is divided into “atmospheric layers”
In the image above, you can see the four layers of the sun’s atmosphere, divided according to their temperature and chemical element.
Purple:Temperature 10 thousand ºC corresponding to hydrogen
Blue: Temperature 32 thousand ºC, corresponding to carbon
Green: Temperature 320 thousand ºC, corresponding to oxygen
Yellow: Temperature 630 thousand ºC, corresponding to neon gas
The person responsible for these color images showing different parts of the sun was the SPICE equipment. The device is also part of the Solar Orbiter and is designed to track layers in a star’s atmosphere from the corona to the chromosphere near the surface.
The mission of the satellite, launched in February 2020, is the astroobservation laboratory. It is currently 42 million kilometers away.
