According to NotWINGan asteroid about 740 meters in size is approaching Earth, about 20 times the size of Christ the Redeemer.

The space giant has been classified as “potentially dangerous” and will arrive in the vicinity of our planet on November 1. And while this could cause catastrophic damage in a potential collision, there is no risk.

Is there a risk that an asteroid will fall to Earth?

The asteroid, named 2022 RM4, is 2.3 million kilometers from our planet – that’s five times the distance between the Earth and the Moon. Although it may seem very far away, it is very close by astronomical standards, but still there is no risk of a collision. This asteroid was discovered in September by the Pan-STARRS 2 telescope, which is located in Hawaii.

2022 RM4 has similar proportions to Dimorphos, an asteroid that was diverted from its original route by the Double Asteroid Redirect Test (Dart) mission to test our planetary defenses in case an event occurs with a real possibility of harming our planet and planet life on it. In the style of the movie “Armageddon”, the spacecraft collided with a celestial body and changed its course. No one died in this process.

NASA’s risk analysis for this type of situation may seem troubling to those who don’t follow the space agency’s updates. Any object within 193 million kilometers of our planet is considered potentially dangerous. This is due to possible changes, such as a change in trajectory or a collision with another space object that changes course. Therefore, the agency remains vigilant and monitors these potential threats.

This is exactly what is happening with the asteroid 2022 RM4, which does not pose a real threat, but is monitored and assessed as a risk on possible variables.
