During the COVID pandemic, many psychological problems have escalated, and anxiety is one of the most plausible among the Brazilian population.
According to WHO (World Health Organization) Brazil is the most anxious country in the world, almost 10% of the population is in this situation, just over 19 million people. And one of the factors that aggravated this situation is the constant exposure to artificial lighting.
Artificial light and anxiety
Through screens, whether our televisions, monitors and smartphones, we are exposed to artificial light on a daily and regular basis. In a sense, we are dependent on these devices, which greatly exacerbates the scenario in which anxious people interfere.
“If we are talking about anxiety and stress, we should always think about how the environment will somehow interfere and affect a person and how it can aggravate the state of anxiety, radiating, depending on the spectrum of light, a greater activation of irritability, making a person more wary. And obviously this leads to increased anxiety.explains naturopath and healthy lighting project specialist Adriana Tedesco (via Olhar Digital).
According to the study “The Effects of Fluorescent Light on Anxious Patients” published in the journal national Medical Library, Raghad F. Khorshid and Sakhaa H Almadani, taken with 206 volunteers, it was found that “participants with anxiety disorders are exposed to fluorescent light. They feel uncomfortable and prefer to leave the room with fluorescent light or try to fit in. Fluorescent light reminds restless participants of the negative aspects more than healthy participants.”
According to naturopath Adriana Tedesco:
The most important thing is to educate people about this issue so that they can observe the quality of lighting in the place where they spend most of the day. Light is the source of life energy and it is important to take care of the quality of the light we are exposed to every day. Be it natural or artificial light. It is a process of raising the awareness of society as a whole of the importance of this subject, which indeed has serious consequences for our health if it is not carried out correctly.
Continuation after commercial
If you’re struggling with anxiety issues, creating an environment with adequate lighting and managing screen time can help alleviate the situation. It may not solve all your problems, but it might help. And remember, always seek professional help.
