One of the theories of the formation of the universe claims that it is actually a very complex simulation powered by incredibly powerful computers. It was created and operated by some hypothetical superintelligence or advanced civilization. It sounds like the plot of a great movie, but today this hypothesis has plenty of compelling evidence and supporters, including Elon Musk.
How to hack a simulated reality?
David Peterson is sure that if there is such a “computer game”, it should include some kind of cheat code, or at least ways to contact its creators to convey your needs or even request something special. He calls this hypothetical “software” in the simulation “Unisym”.
Peterson has doubts about the first, because he believes Earth simulation is extremely difficult to implement and operate. So it’s probably impossible to functionally hack the system to add “fact-altering particles”. But he is more optimistic about the latter.
the fun starts here. He cites “praying or something like that” as a possible example of such a way to break the simulation. According to Peterson, the default computer “metauniverse” would be written and maintained by “metahackers” – highly sophisticated computer engineers who could, in theory, take “functional requests” from humans.
Is there a mechanism where we can send revision requests to the Unisym repository from within the simulation? It’s possible that meta hackers are considering “pull requests” – changes to the source code – from our universe.
– thinks scientist.
But at the same time, it is not possible to expect those who developed the universe to know what we want. We must somehow convey to them our calling – our hopes and dreams of renewal. Peterson lists a series of “universal attribute requests” ranging from requests to see all the steps we take in a lifetime at the click of a button to requests for immortality and endless money.
It’s unclear how exactly David Peterson would come up with ways to disrupt the so-called simulation. It probably doesn’t frighten him that thousands of years of prayers have failed. At the same time, he highlights that the new version of Unisym needs changes that will allow the simulation to continue from the current state instead of starting from scratch. Because then maybe he won’t be in it anymore.
