What have archaeologists learned?

  • Archaeologists discovered three residential buildings, each approximately 13 meters long.
  • The buildings were clustered atop a small hill that towered above the Tucson Megalithic Cemetery.
  • Analysis of the paleo-soils excavated from this site suggests that the structures were located on a promontory surrounded by a swamp.
  • These natural defense structures were further strengthened by a railing and a moat, as well as two monumental structures protecting the entrance to the enclosure.

The object testifies to the existence of unique monumental buildings, possibly for defensive purposes. This shows that social tensions increased in the Neolithic era,
said Dr. from the French National Scientific Research Center. Vincent Ar.

All the buildings here were destroyed in a fire around 4400 BC. This suggests that the defense of the village during the conflict was not sufficient to protect the inhabitants. However, such destruction helped preserve the archaeological monument.

Scientists plan to continue researching this place to shed light on the lives of people who are known only for their monuments to the dead. The results already show that their settlement was on a monumental scale.
