During the survey, the Juno spacecraft was about 71,000 kilometers above Jupiter’s upper clouds. This is stated on NASA’s official website.

In addition to a multicolored image of the planet, there is another interesting detail in this picture – the shadow floating on the surface of the giant, on the left side of the frame. Due to its size, it belongs to a rather large object (although the object still looks small compared to the planet).

Examining the frame, experts determined that the shadow was cast by Jupiter’s moon Ganymede.

Ganymede is the seventh moon away from the gas giant and the largest moon in the solar system. Its diameter is 5268 kilometers, 8% more than Mercury. Ganymede’s mass is only 45% of Mercury’s mass, but it’s still a record among moons.
