What is known about the discovered mollusk

When Blaine Parker found such a large mollusk, he even thought you could get two servings of food from it.

We were just about to eat but after some thought and decided it had to be something special. That’s why we didn’t want to kill him.

Fortunately, Parker works at the Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory, so he decided to put his finding into practice. Although Oyster was a star for a while, the team decided to release it back into the sea.

The mollusk discovered by Parker is a species known as the oceanic quahog (Arctica Islandica). Interestingly, like a tree, the age of such mollusks can be determined from the growth rings in their shells. The mollusk is believed to be from 1809, as Parker counted 214 rings.

1809 is the year Abraham Lincoln was born. For this reason, the mollusk was nicknamed Aber-clam Lincoln. Most of this variety is between 7 and 11 centimeters (2.8 and 4.3 inches) long, according to NOAA and the Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory. But this quahog is 15 centimeters and Weight up to 1.1 kilograms.
